Abstract

Social engagement and mobilization within the territory to minimize the impacts of extreme climate events are ways to combat environmental racism. This work aims to understand the organizational structure of a socioterritorial movement from a geographical perspective focused on health promotion, within the context of a climate and environmental crisis in the Tarumã neighborhood, located in the western zone of the city of Manaus, Amazonas state. The methodological approach, through the geographical perspective known as socio-environmental geography, allows for the analysis of the territory's environmental problems, understanding how residents organize themselves to cope with extreme climate events. In this context of extreme climate events, there is a need for vulnerable populations to have access to knowledge of the climate risks present in the territory, and the school becomes a fundamental link in bringing this knowledge to residents and encouraging their engagement and mobilization for health promotion.
